The power of dreams.

Went and talked with the psychiatrist at the hospital this morning.

He was pleased with the improvement I've been showing and my willingness to keep on working through everything. He had finally caught up on my full file ((which you know has stuff since I was 6 so yeah, a LOT of reading)) and told me that the only other time I showed this much improvement so quickly was in 2008 and he asked if anything significant happened then.

I honestly couldn't think of anything myself so, with both of us curious, he pulled out the paperwork and read off various events and such but nothing really hit me.

Then he asked what One Piece was.

For an ENTIRE HOUR I went off on this huge fangirlish explanation of the series and why I love it and the characters/pairings/events/settings and such that I adore and the people I've met through it and how my art changed and I learned to have fun and pushed myself and why they were all so damn inspiring and and...well you get the point.

And through it all he just smiled. I didn't even realized I had gotten up and was walking around acting out parts of my favourite scenes until he started laughing.

He then told me he learned more about me during that hour of watching and listening to me then he had by meeting with me since September and going through my file.

It would seem 2007-8 was when I was first introduced to One Piece. And it has left a noticeable difference and now that I'm back into it ((after needing a break after Ace....)) that difference is back.

I didn't even think about it, but it's true.

Now he's off to read it for himself because I made him damn curious as to how One Piece could do this to a person.

I'm curious about his reaction when next I go for a session.

*hug* That's amazing! Just... So wonderful! :)

My boyfriend recently read it (in a week!) so that we could talk about it and such and I'm planning on loaning some to my friend's 12-year-old. :)

I love One Piece because it's about dreams, friendship and fighting the good fight, even if you don't win.

It really is!! I got into right around the time I started college and my disorders were really kicking into overdrive. Quite a few people had been poking me in it's direction and I finally caved in a read it.

Then I couldn't stop.

It made me want to live and have fun. It inspired me to draw, to dream to fight back and go for it! I wanted to stand back up again and the people I met through it just encouraged that! I am grateful to it and all those I've met because of it.

Even when I'm in tears.

Hearing this makes me wish I'd been in OP fandom during my hell year. It may have been better, who knows...

Now that I'm back in fandom, I'm definitely more... excited about things XD

Honestly, it has helped keep me alive and yes, it does encourage a joy for life ^___^

[identity profile] thisistony.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe it! :)

[identity profile] genuinelie.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
What an amazing show, eh? It made my life significantly better than it was too. How crazy that something done for entertainment can make such a real impact on peoples' lives around the world.

[identity profile] luco-millian.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed it is! I know when I just sit back and think about it, the idea simply blows me away. I NEVER expected it to accomplish what it has and to continue to do so. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was positively effected by it ^___^

((and I got to meet people like you because of it which is also pretty damn awesome!))

[identity profile] genuinelie.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
(back atcha!!!

...btw, I don't even know if you remember, but I've been kinda continuously embarrassed by being such a ditz the last time I ran into you at Otakon. Sorry for being awkward in any case!)

[identity profile] luco-millian.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
You were adorable and awesome and nothing else matters!! **much love and hugs**

Besides, you should have first seen me at Otakon...I was huddle all shyly in a corner until a One Piece cosplayer pounced me and my Zoro!Bunny and then realized who I was and kidnapped me....

That was awkward.....but with awesome results ^^;

[identity profile] genuinelie.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee!

[identity profile] yukinoomoni.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
That's so adorable.

[identity profile] luco-millian.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I probably looked like a complete goof but I was happy ^____^

[identity profile] valoriejueles.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
One Piece can do that to a person, because One Piece is just THAT FULL OF HAPPINESS!

[identity profile] luco-millian.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
And inspiration and courage and just yes!!

Yes. It is full of YES.

[identity profile] valoriejueles.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oda has mad skills when it comes to portraying emotion, so of course he can pull off pure YES-ness!
He just takes everything anyone's ever wanted to do ever and has his characters go out an do it. Sail to an island in the clouds? check. Make friends with a giant whale big enough to swallow you? check. Do whatever the fuck you want regardless of opposition? check. Box while sporting a giant afro? Check.

And THEN he shows you all the things you never THOUGHT you wanted to do...and then goes and does them.

One Piece has done a lot for me too, both story and people I met through it. I guess there are just some stories in the world that can make all the difference.

[identity profile] luco-millian.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup! And luckily we found one!

[identity profile] sleepy-firebug.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It is pretty incredible, isn't it? I know that I found One Piece just before one of the biggest periods of self-discovery in my life, and in its own odd way it helped me find myself. Heck, it still is, if I want to be honest. :) I'm so glad that you've had it with you to ease you through the rough periods, and give you something to be happy about when life's being a douche. Plus the people we've met because of it... One Piece truly is spectacular. I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed that it keeps on helping with helping you get better.

Heck, the only reason I met you was because of One Piece. No matter how many bittersweet memories I may have of the series now because of other stuff in my life, that's got to be one thing that I'm most thankful for. <3

(lol, I win at leaving comments. XD)

It is truly amazing what this story has done and helped accomplish and yes, the people I've met because of it are one of the things I cherish the most! I still remember when I first met you and I simply adore that memory!
