Yes my baby is here ^______________________________^

And I have two quick questions. . . . .

How the hell do I get the wig on him?

And what is safe to use for make-up?

*wraps him carefully in blanket*

You're 3 weeks early love, I have nothing ready for you. . . . . . .

According to Den of Angels' Dollfie FAQ, it says that people use velcro to put the wigs on. (image here)

I hope that's helpful. ^^;;;

If the wig's cap is stretchy then you shouldn't really need the velcro. And of course it depends on the wig too! The ones I've gotten, they stretched enough to sit on the head fine.

So which one did you get? :)

Yaaaay! Congratulations!

Lots of people use pastels for make-up, followed by a clear coat to fix it in place. I use a strip of velcro on my boy's head to keep his wigs in place since lots of wigs are a bit loose on DoD heads.

Pastels are safe then? Okay, I can work with that. . . .and it's nice to know that I'm not alone in my wig problems ^^; Wa sitting there for about an hour and both me and Mark were trying to get it to stay on but it wouldn't and. . .*laughs*

Yeah, we shall wait till this weekend. He seems to be fairly modest O__o

But I still adore him and he looks right sitting here in my room......and I'm so glad he arrived on a rainy day with the most breath-taking lightening storm I have ever seen.

It suits him so well.

I can't wait to start drawing him ^_________^

Is the wig too big? A temporary fix is putting a few rubber bands around the head cap to help grip it.

I don't care for velcro. I mean, you gotta attatch some to the skull, and then to every wig you use, you gotta align it every time, it's thick, and it gets stuck on stuff. You know that grippy rubbery mesh? Try attatching a little of that to the headcap instead. It should add enough friction with less trouble.

I've been told that the wig stopper that Volks sells is excellent, better than the rubbery grippy mesh.

As for paint, nothing with oil. That's vital. Oil stains resin. So, chalk/soft pastels, makeup with no oil, water color pencils, paints with no oil, etc. are good. I think some paints may very lightly stain the resin. Now, I've never done a faceup myself, but Shen had an accident (which I still haven't sent to someone to patch up), and it's currently hidden with a touch of ground pastel. The kind I used was Nupastel, which is the kind the artist who said he probably could fix Shen uses. They say to put it on with Q-tips, but for that touch up, I used the tip of a small brush.

Oh, and a good equivalent of the Volks cleaning sponge is the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Careful, though, they both take off EVERYTHING, so don't use it on anything painted (or on any laminated wood).

Thank you, will have to try all of that and play around till I see what works. . . .

Yeah, it's just glue after all.

(A lot of people reccomend velcro, but at meets it seems to make things kinda cumbersome)

If you have any fake fur, try making a fur wig! Just be careful you don't eat/inhale too much fur.

As for clothes... you know the standard chubby 18-inch doll? Well, their short sleeved shirts can KINDA fit the 2 foot BJDs. The thing is, you gotta go around to doll supply stores and stores with pretty much anything in the size and shop around, see what fits. Extra points if you can find the kind that sells wigs and eyes. Kind of helps if you bring your doll. Oh, and once your doll has some undies at least, feel free to play along with everyone's assumptions that he's a girl. XD Makes things a lot smoother. In fact, if they assume your boy's a girl, they'll actually probably think he's quite pretty and charming.

pardon me for spamming. ^^;

for the wig, a little strip of self-adhesive velcro will do the trick. just stick it to his headcap, the rough side of velcro, not the fuzzy side. ^_^

I'm no expert, but for faceups, first you need to spray the head with a sealant coat. Mr. Super Clear is preferred, but the stuff is solid gold in a can. Oridnary mortals can just go to a hobby shop and get a can of testors dullcote. I wouldn't reccomend using any kind of sealer other than that, or mixing types, but testors seems to work okay.

remove the head and headcap and place the head, large skull opening side down, on a bit of cardboard, (it will make it easiest to spray it) and give it a coat of your sealer, following the can instructions. it's best to do it somewhere where it is not too hot or humid, just make sure you have good ventilation. The sealer will give your paint and pastels something to hang onto, and will protect the resin underneath. otherwise, color won't stick on him very well. Once the sealer is dry, lightly sketch in where you would like his eyebrows to go, with a regular graphite pencil or light brown watercolor pencil. when you've got what you like, tap the lines with a white eraser until you just have a faint line to follow. You can color him with watercolor pencils, pastels (not oil based, chalk pastels only), or good quality acrylic paints thinned with water to make them go on best, or any combo. some people paint on the eyelashes and liner and the lips and eyebrows, and then spray a coat of sealant, and then use pastels for blushing. I know some people do great faceups with nothing but watercolor pencils. Once you've gotten his paint the way you like it, seal it one last time with the testors so it won't smudge. After that, you can use a water-based acrylic-friendly gloss to gloss his lips and the inside of his eyes if you like. You can also apply eyelashes on his upper lid with some white craft glue (I use aleene's quick dry); just human-sized fake lashes trimmed down will do.

If you need any close-up samples of faceups for reference, I'd be happy to provide. ^____^ You don't have to copy anyone's, but I find it helps me.

all of this should be removable with a Mr. Clean Magic sponge. You can also use one of those to wipe him down if he gets any dirt, or if his wig or clothes rub color off on him.

Congrats on your new boy! Camine is a dreamboat. ^______^

Me thinks I have some shopping to do this weekend. The wig is now on and all is good there. I can't stop playing with the long tail he has though ^___^ Will have to braid it for now so it doesn't get tangled in everything.

Make-up will have to wait till this weekend, but right now...we need to do something about his lack of clothes >_>

And feel free to spam. Any help I can get with taking care of my baby I'll gladly accept.

And he is a darling, and very, very patient with me.
